Meghan Vogel, a high school junior from Ohio, had won the 16-hundred-meter title earlier in the day… But she gave up the 32-hundred title to help Arden McMath. McMath started blacking out and collapsed just 20 feet from the finish line. Vogel says she did what she had to do, and THAT is why she carried her across the finish line.
Not only did she carry the girl across the finish line, but she made it so that THE GIRL crossed in front of her.
She says it was more satisfying helping McMath cross the finish line… than winning the state championship.
Listen to how the crowd reacted…Hell, I CRIED from how proud I am of this girl.
This is the epitome of true sportsmanship, and a the true spirit of a runner.
